Salvation Army 155th Anniversary – Proofs

Six countries issued anniversary stamps commemorating the Salvation Army’s 155th anniversary. Related to these issues, signed proofs were made. I got hold of no. 001 in all of these series. Two of the issues are shown here: Central African Republic and Republicque Togolaise

SA 57.1 - Proof no. 001
SA 57.2 - Proof no. 001

SA 2.1 – Netherlands Indies FDC

SA 2.1 – Private Plain FDC

Salvation Army Child welfare stamps. Netherlands Indies (now: Indonesia) was the first country to release charity stamps supporting the Salvation Army in 1932 and this set of 1936. These stamps were sold to the public for an amount which was divided into two portions, one representing postal value which carries the right to service, and the other devoted to the SA. As a result, the SA received a substantial sum for its territorial social endeavours (source: Ken Daws. The world of Salvation Army stamps. Egon Publishers Ltd, 1996). This cover is numbered as SA 2.1 in the SA FDC catalogue and is very seldom seen on online auctions. Actually, I’ve not seen such an item before, a private plain FDC. These were usually registered covers sent abroad. Postmarked in Semarang 01.12.1936.

SA 4.14 – rare US FDC

SA 4.14 – Mather’s Forgery

Salvation Army world centennial, issued 02.07.1965. This cachet is noted in the Mellone catalogue (nr. 29) as a “Mather’s Forgery” cachet. The cover was created by dealer Jerry P. Mather. He made counterfeit covers with phony First Day of Issue postmark, and his covers are really collector rarities now. The cachet has a black Salvation Army Shield and is noted as nr 4.14 in the SA FDC catalogue. The shield is an imitation of the shield on the SA cachet 4.12:  Read more about the FDC dealer here:  https://www.ronnei.com/fdcM33.html

1978 – Sweden – New FDCs

Two new Swedish  FDCs was just obtained from a Swedish online auction. Never seen before. The stamps depict evangelical free churces including the Salvation Army. The SA stamp depicts the Stockholm VII Band. These cachets were made by the Swedish Mission Church (Svenska Missionsforbundet). One is their official Cachet, the other is with an imprint of their logo. Unlisted in the SA FDC catalogue . I’ve set the number to SA 9.6 & 9.7. Must be RARE! I’ve also added a plain & registered FDC. It’s very seldom to see private FDC of this issue.

SA 9.6 – Swedish Mission Church
SA 9.7 – Imprint Swedish Mission Church
SA 9.8 – Plain & registered
